Maurizio Leoni graduated from the Accademia Filarmonica  Bolognese and the Bologna Conservatorio with honours in singing.

He made is debut in 1990 at the Walton Foundation in Ischia where, under  the direction of Martin Isepp and Colin Graham begins as Enrico in Il Campanello by G. Donizetti.   Here start a long period of operas, characters and important meetings: La Bohème product by the AS.LI.CO. Competition conduct by S. Ranzani,  Don Geronio in  Il Turco in Italia as well with M° Ranzani and the direction of S. Vizioli; once more  La Bohème at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice with M° Viotti and Schaunard at the Massimo Bellini Theatre in Catania and then at the Bunkakaikan Theatrte in Tokyo conduct by D. Renzetti.

Buffo roles are in this period, the most appropriate to his versatile nature:  from Leporello with M° J.C. Malgoire in Tourcoing and  through all France, to  Matilde di Shabran by G. Rossini at the  Rossini Festival in Wildbad,  to  Il SIgnor Bruschiono, L'occaisione fa il ladro,   La scal di seta by G. Rossini at the  Konzerthaus in Wien and at the Opera Comique in Paris conduct by  C. Desderi, and to  Mamm'Agata in  Le Convenienze e le Inconvenienze teatrali by G. Donizetti conduct by F. M. Carmnati.

Among these operas, start to creep the "twenties-century and contemporary world" that alway accompanied him and it has made possible to debut over 12 works premiered:  we had  Die Teufel von Loudon by K. Pendercki at the Teatro Regio in Torino conducted by  Y. David and directed by  J.C. Plaza,  Gesualdo considered as a murder by  L: Francesconi for MITO Festival in MIlano and more:  Salomè at Teatro Comunale in Bologna with M° D. Gatti and Pierluigi Pizzi, and  Turandot by F. Busoni with the conducting of  L. Koenigs and directed by  D. Krief and the hard but exciting experience in  Il Prigioniero by L. Dallapiccola in Catania conducted by  Z. Pesko.

But during the last years the balance of his voice has moved from a buffo style to a more defined baritone:  and so here it is Don Quichotte in  El Retablo de Maese Pedro by M. De Falla in a big tour through Italy (Monza, Pescara, Teatro Politeama in Palermo, Siracusa....)  with the  Divertimento ensemble (very famouse Ensemble for  twenties-century music of which he is a permanent member) conduct by  S. Gorli;  Figaro in  Il barbiere di Siviglia in  Dordrecht (NL) with the conducting of  M° G. Carella and W. Matteuzzi as director and also  Figaro in Potenza with the direction of Luca Verdone; Marcello in La Bohème in Taegu  (South-Corea);  Rigoletto in Scandiano conduct by S. Giaroli and  Giorgio Germont in Traviata in San Daniele del Friuli with M° F. Turissini.
